Linn-Mar’s Schmidt All-Metro football player of year

CEDAR RAPIDS - Quarterback Ryan Schmidt of Linn-Mar is the 2014 All-Metro football player of the year, it was announced Wednesday.
Schmidt accounted for 2,199 yards and 35 touchdowns passing and rushing this season, as Linn-Mar had a rebound 9-2 season. Paul James and his assistants at Cedar Rapids Washington were honored as All-Metro coaching staff of the year.
Washington, which advanced to the Class 4A state championship game had five players named to the first team: Julian Good-Jones and Landen Akers (offense) and Reid Snitker, Royal Silver and Connor Vincent (defense). Linn-Mar was next with four picks: Schmidt, Trevor Noble and Perrion Scott (offense) and Logan Nelsen (defense).
Jefferson and Prairie had three first-team picks each in Jesse Furrow, Dalton Kuehl and Dakota Tomkins (Jeff) and Keagan Pinter, Jojo Simpson and Ben Boldt (Prairie).
Kennedy's first-team selections were Shaun Beyer (offense) and Parker Steffen (defense). Marion's lone first-teamer was Hayden Meister (offense).
