Linn-Mar approves school calendar for 2016-2017

MARION - The Linn-Mar school board this week approved a school calendar for 2016-2017 that calls for the district to begin classes on Aug. 23 and, if there are no excessive snow makeup days, end classes on May 31, 2017.

Graduation for the class of 2017 is scheduled for May 28, 2017.

Thanksgiving break is scheduled for Nov. 23 to 25, 2016; winter break from Dec. 23, 2016, to Jan. 2, 2017; and spring break from March 13 to 17, 2017.

One snow makeup day (March 31, 2017) is built into the calendar. Subsequent snow makeup days, if needed, would be added on at the end of the school year.

The calendar is similar to the one being used this school year. It follows state law that no longer allows waivers to start classes earlier in August.
