Linn County Fair queen candidates vie for crown Sunday

CENTRAL CITY - Four candidates are vying to be crowned the 2017 Linn County Fair queen with judging set to take place Sunday in the Lynn Dunn Memorial Building at the fairgrounds, 201 Central City Rd., Central City.
The public is welcome to meet the candidates and enjoy refreshments at 6 p.m. Sunday.
This year's queen is to be crowned during opening ceremonies set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, in the grandstand at the fairgrounds. Reigning Linn County Fair Queen Makenna Blackford, of Marion, and Princess Rachel Zumbach, of Coggon, plan to hand off their titles and crowns at that time.
This year's candidates are:
' Alexis Costello, daughter of Tim and Karen Costello of Cedar Rapids. She'll be studying at Mount Mercy University this fall and plans to double major in criminal justice and accounting.
' Kiera Dixon, daughter of Michael and Karen Dixon of Walker. She'll be attending Central College this fall.
' Grace Pisarik, daughter of Steve and Susan Pisarik of Mount Vernon. She'll be a senior at Mount Vernon High School this fall. Her future plans are to attend college and pursue a career in the medical field.
' Delaney Sturtz, daughter of Michelle Tegeier of Cedar Rapids. She'll be a senior at Alburnett High School this fall. Her future plans involve a career in animal science.
This year's fair runs from June 28 through July 3 with daily hours from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. More information about this year's fair can be found at thelinncountyfair.com.
