Libertarian to announce Iowa gubernatorial bid in North Liberty Saturday

Mar. 11, 2016 12:52 pm
DES MOINES - Iowa businessman and Libertarian Party leader Jake Porter will announce his candidacy for governor at 4 p.m. March 12 at the North Liberty Community Library, 520 W. Cherry St.
Porter, who was the Libertarian candidate for Iowa Secretary of State in 2010 and 2014, has been an advocate for freedom, civil liberties and corporate welfare reform.
He's a tech and media entrepreneur in Council Bluffs and has previously worked for Yahoo! and Apple. He holds a business degree from AIB College of Business in Des Moines.
He's running because a 'bunch of busybodies” are running state government.
'We need to have a government that quits regulating small businesses out of business,” according to his remarks prepared for delivery Saturday. 'We need to have a government that cares enough about sick people to let them decide their own medication and not a government that believes it is a necessary function of government to prosecute cancer patients and the parents of sick children for giving them their medication.”
Porter, 28, promises not to have a 'message of despair like just about every other politician.”
Instead, he has a 'message of freedom … true optimism … an entrepreneurial message … a message of freedom for the individual and not a message to increase the power of big corporations or the power of the almighty state.”
