Legislature honors Ferentz, Hawks

Mar. 10, 2010 8:07 pm
Iowa Hawkeye football Coach Kirk Ferentz thanked the Iowa Legislature Wednesday for its support and the support of fans all over the state.
The House and Senate honored the University of Iowa coach and his 2010 Orange Bowl-winning team with resolutions thanking the team for an “exciting year.”
Ferentz agreed the team provided many thrills on its way to an 11-2 season which was capped by a 24-14 victory over Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
Ferentz noted he has moved around often at the college and professional football ranks.
“One thing that has always struck me about being Iowa is the support we receive is so unique, the interest and support is just absolutely phenomenal,” Ferentz said. “It shows up in terms of the Kinnick crowds, when we go on the roads, the great groups that were down in Miami for the Orange Bowl. Those are things we are very, very appreciative of and if we can pay back to the state in any way by performing well in the field, by having a team that people can be proud of, that's really our goal.”
“Thanks for having us and, uh, we'll worry about next year here in a few days,” Ferentz added.
