LATEST: Closings and cancellations, snow forecast
Jan. 17, 2011 7:45 am
As much as four inches of new snow is expected to fall across Eastern Iowa today, and the morning commute is proving slippery.
Snow is likely throughout the day today, with most falling in the morning hours. The snow may be heavy at times, KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team meteorologist Kaj O'Mara said, and you'll want to give yourself extra time as visibilities may be reduced and roads become slick.
Mixed precipitation may occur south of Interstate 80 early this morning as well.
The snow will taper to flurries this afternoon, with most locations north of I-80 seeing 2 to 4 inches. South of I-80, about 1 to 2 inches is expected, with some icing. The active weather will continue right through the week, with significant cold by the end of the week.
