Landowners sue over proposed Iowa City concrete plant

Landowners near a proposed concrete plant in Iowa City have gone to court to stop the project.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen says Streb Construction Co. is considering a lot in an industrial area with farmland nearby.
The city's adjustment board approved a special exception to the zoning code in August to allow the plant to be built. In November, Prybil Family Investments, which owns farmland near the site, filed a lawsuit in Johnson County contesting the decision. It contends the dust created will kill crops and trees and lower property values.
Company spokesman Steven Streb says a double line of trees will be planted to shield the plant on all sides. Streb is awaiting a court decision before proceeding with construction plans.
