HIAWATHA — A longtime Hawkeye Area Community Action Program employee has been promoted to chief operating officer after more than 20 years with the regional nonprofit.
The organization recently announced via press release that Kim Guardado will fill the COO vacancy left when Matt Majeski was selected to become HACAP’s next chief executive officer. She will assume the position this month.
Per the press release, Guardado brings to the role “24 years of dedicated service to HACAP and a lifelong commitment to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families experiencing poverty.”
“Kim’s dedication to the mission of community action, to help individuals develop skills and build strong communities makes her a great choice to help lead and guide HACAP for years to come,” Majeski wrote in the release.
Guardado most recently served as director of HACAP’s regional food reservoir, which serves pantries across east-central Iowa. She has held that role since 2018 and oversaw reservoir operations throughout the significant disruptions from both the COVID-19 pandemic and 2020 derecho.
Before her time with the food reservoir, Guardado had spent 16 years advancing health services for area residents as part of HACAP’s Family & Community Health Alliance division.
