BURLINGTON - Nick Gordon had three hits and three RBIs to help the Cedar Rapids Kernels salvage the final game of their three-game series against the Burlington Bees, 5-2, Monday afternoon.
Starting pitcher Jared Wilson (2-0) threw five innings to get the victory. He allowed four hits, four walks and a run, striking out three.
Tanner English also had three hits for the Kernels (8-4), scoring twice. 9-1-2 hitters English, Zack Granite and Gordon combined to go 8-for-11 with three runs and four RBIs.
Cedar Rapids travels to Wisconsin to begin a three-game series Tuesday. Before Monday's game, it was announced catcher J.J. Fernandez has been placed on the disabled list with a concussion and replaced on the active roster by catcher Brett Doe from Minnesota Twins extended spring training.
Doe, 24, was a 38th-round draft pick of the Twins last year out of Baylor University. He hit .207 in 23 games last season for Rookie-level Elizabethton.
The Midwest League also announced Monday that Felix Jorge of the Kernels has been named the league's pitcher of the week. Jorge was 1-0 with a 0.75 earned run average last week in two starts. He allowed seven hits and struck out 17 in 12 innings.
