PEORIA, Ill. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels won one and lost one Monday night.
They took the completion of a suspended game from last week, 7-3, over the Peoria Chiefs, but lost an ensuing seven-inning affair, 1-0.
Keaton Steele, who joined the team Monday from Minnesota Twins extended spring training, threw five innings of three-hit, one-run ball to pick up the win in the suspended game. Cedar Rapids led in the bottom of the fourth, 6-2, when play was resumed.
Each team scored once the rest of the way.
Zack Larson's single was the only hit of the scheduled game for the Kernels (23-15). Austin Gomber (3-3) didn't walk anyone and struck out four for the win.
Mat Batts (3-2) was the very tough-luck loser, striking out 12 in six innings. Peoria scored the game's only run in the third inning, on a Casey Turgeon RBI double.
The teams play again Tuesday night.
