GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels have had a successful 2015 Midwest League season, and you can thank the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for a lot of that.
Starting pitcher Randy Rosario threw seven shutout innings, and the Kernels continued their domination of the Western Division foe via a 7-1 win Wednesday night.
Cedar Rapids (74-61, 33-32) are a rather amazing 15-1 against Wisconsin, including 10-0 at Fox Cities Stadium. The teams play the second game of their three-game series Thursday night at 6:35.
Rosario (2-5) matched a season high with eight strikeouts, allowing five hits and walking three. This was his first victory since July 11.
Chris Paul, activated from the disabled list Wednesday, had a two-run single in the second inning for the Kernels. Three fifth-inning runs pretty much sealed the deal for Cedar Rapids, with Austin Diemer adding a two-run home run in the seventh.
The Kernels and parent Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday that infielder Pat Kelly and outfielder Zack Larson have been placed on the seven-day disabled list. In addition to Paul's activation, the Kernels received outfielder LaMonte Wade from Rookie-level Elizabethton.
Wade was a ninth-round draft pick in June out of the University of Maryland. He hit .312 with nine home runs at E-town.
