CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Kernels announced Tuesday they are accepting applications for the 2016 version of the Nick Adenhart Scholarship.
Adenhart was a young pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels and former Kernel who died in an automobile accident in 2009 at the age of 22. His family honors him yearly by awarding a $1,000 scholarship in his name to a local or area athlete.
Applicants must be a high-school senior and planning to attend either a two or four-year college. They also must have played an organized sport in the last two years, 'be a great teammate, must demonstrate hard work and determination, and must have a clear vision of their career goal.” Adenhart Scholarship applications are available through area high-school guidance offices or may be downloaded at www.kernels.com. Deadline for them is April 15.
Kernels' pitcher Nick Adenhart (21) pitches to the Beloit Snappers at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, June 15, 2006. The kernels one on to win the game 3-2.
