Jones Park clubhouse will be first flood-damaged city building to reopen
Nov. 17, 2009 7:04 am
The Jones Park Golf Course Clubhouse is about to become the first flood-damaged city building to reopen.
A celebration will be held at the clubhouse, 2901 Fruitland Blvd. SW, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a drawing for door prizes at 6 p.m.
Three feet of water filled the clubhouse during the June 2008 flood. Approximately 80 percent of the merchandise was salvaged and removed from the clubhouse on June 15 and the clubhouse was mitigated and “humidity controlled” within two weeks of the flood. A modular unit served as a temporary clubhouse this past golf season while the original clubhouse was renovated.
“This is a very exciting event for all of our staff. The cooperative efforts between City staff and City Council, Solum-Lang Architects, Driscoll Construction and FEMA have been exceptional. Our golfers and neighbors are as excited as staff is to reopen Jones Park Clubhouse and to have a normal season of play at Jones Park Golf Course. Improvements to the facility have really turned out well and I think the golfers will enjoy the enhancements,” said Lisa Miller, Golf Operations Manager.
Merchandise, gift cards and 2010 season golf passes are available at the clubhouse through December 24. Holiday hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The clubhouse is also available to lease for meetings and parties.
