IOWA CITY – Amy Correia, coordinator of Johnson County's Social Services Department the past five years, submitted her resignation Wednesday.
Her last day will be July 15.
Correia said Thursday she's leaving to be the manager at Crazy Girl Yarn Shop in Coralville. She said she has a passion for knitting and crafts and wanted to take a sabbatical from social work after 20 years in that field.
Many of Social Services' programs help people in need, and Correia has overseen local and state grants for community-based programs. The department works closely with the Iowa Department of Human Services.
Correia started as Social Services coordinator in January 2006. Her current annual salary is $65,675.
She served on the Iowa City Council for four years, starting in 2006.
