Union workers plan to rally at the Iowa capitol this week to show their support for Wisconsin workers protesting their governor's proposal to eliminate union rights.
Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO says on its website that unions are being stifled across the U.S., not just in Wisconsin. It's calling for workers to gather at 1 p.m. Tuesday on the west steps of the capitol in Des Moines.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's bill would require government workers to contribute more to their health care and pension costs. It would also largely eliminate their collective bargaining rights. The proposal has spawned massive protests in Madison.
