The University of Iowa has learned it did not win a $100 million federal grant to build a new children's hospital.
UI Vice President for Medical Affairs Jean (Jahn) Robillard (RO-bee-yard) says Ohio State beat out Iowa and other schools for the grant money, which was included in the federal health care reform law.
Robillard says the university is disappointed but will still build the new hospital on the same timeline, with a goal of opening in 2015 or 2016. He says the estimated $270 million cost will be paid through hospital revenues, borrowing and private fundraising.
