An Iowa State Trooper was taken to Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls for treatment of injuries after his parked car was rear-ended by another motorist Tuesday morning.
Trooper Brian Bartels, 44, had pulled over on the inside shoulder of Highway 218 northbound to assist another motorist near Janesville when at around 10:15 a.m., John Marcus, 26, of Huron, S.D., lost control of his northbound Chevy Trailblazer and hit the trooper's car from behind.
Bartels' car had its emergency lights on and he was in the car wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The AP reports that Bartels was released from Sartori later in the day.
