CEDAR RAPIDS - Union Pacific's steam train won't come to Eastern Iowa this year.
A proposed excursion across the state's eastern half fell about 3,000 votes short in the railroad's Great Excursion Adventure contest. Instead, a route from Kansas City to St. Louis, then south to Little Rock, Ark., won with 76,217 online votes to the Iowa route's 73,175.
The Iowa route outpolled two other options - through Utah and Idaho, and through Texas and Louisiana.
The railroad will announce the schedule for what it's calling the Little Rock Express in coming weeks.
