Iowa semi driver dies in I-80 accident

WEST BRANCH - A Pleasantville, Iowa, man died in a Friday afternoon crash involving three semi-trailer trucks on Interstate 80 in Cedar County.

The Iowa State Patrol said Gary Collins, 69, died when the semi he was driving west ran into the rear of another semi driven by Kevin Broberg, 46, of Norfolk, Neb., shortly after 2 p.m. about 4 miles east of West Branch.

The impact pushed Broberg's semi into another semi driven by Gary Schiemann, 51, of Omaha.

The trucks driven by Broberg and Schiemann were stopped on the interstate because of an accident ahead of them, the State Patrol reported.

The investigating trooper said weather and roadway conditions were not 'a major contributing factor” to the accident, which is under investigation.
