Iowa Mennonite School student dies after falling from ladder

A 10th grade student at Iowa Mennonite School in Kalona has died after falling from a ladder at an all school social Friday night.

The student, who was identified as Teresa Cardenas in a statement from Steve Schrag, principal at Iowa Mennonite School, was transported to the University of Iowa hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to a news release from The Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

'This is a devastating loss for Teresa's family and the community,” Schrag stated in his release, which also stated that the Iowa Mennonite School community gathered Saturday morning with pastors and counselors.

IMS has also sought additional resources from both private counselors as well as the Critical Incident Stress Management Team from the local Area Education Agency.

Classes at IMS will resume on Monday.
