Iowa man charged in hit-and-run death dies

The body of an elderly Iowa man charged in the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist has been found and police say it appears the man committed suicide.

The body of 80-year-old Paul McKinney was found in his Winterest home Friday morning.

Police Chief Ken Burk says McKinney's body was found by police and emergency personnel responding to an alarm at his home about 9:15 a.m.

Burk says McKinney's body has been taken to a crime lab in Des Moines for autopsy.

McKinney was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, obstruction of prosecution by destruction of evidence and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

He is accused of driving a pickup truck that hit and killed 54-year-old Mark Grgurich of Des Moines on Aug. 30 in rural Warren County.
