At least 27 U.S. state attorneys general, including Iowa's, initiated a multistate investigation Thursday of Volkswagen over its representations to consumers over diesel vehicles,
'I'm very troubled by the conduct that Volkswagen has acknowledged so far through its public statements,” Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller said in a statement. ”We will investigate whether the company, in fact, engaged in deceptive practices and how the conduct, if confirmed, may have affected Iowa consumers and our environment.”
The group will send subpoenas to Volkswagen, a spokeswoman for the Illinois attorney general said.
News of the subpoena and state attorneys general participating so far comes two days after New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said a group was forming to probe the carmaker over rigged U.S. emissions tests.
