Iowa's top transportation official, Paul Trombino III, has been elected president of a national organization that advocates transportation policy priorities, including federal funding for highways.
Trombino, who was appointed as director of the Iowa Department of Transportation in 2011, has been elected president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Board of Directors.
David Bernhardt, commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation, was elected vice president.
As president, Trombino will work with representatives for transportation departments from all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
'Transportation powers the creation of wealth across the United States, unleashing opportunity for economic activity and quality of life,” Trombino said in a statement. 'AASHTO has served its members well for 100 years, and it is important that the organization continue to adapt to ensure it can serve its evolving membership.”
