DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - People wanting to reserve an Iowa campsite online may get more options under a new system being considered by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR is looking at changing the contractor who runs the system. The Des Moines Register says the change would increase the number of campsites available for online reservations from 50 percent of the total number of sites to 75 percent.
The website would be run by Active Network of San Diego, which already handles online sales for Iowa hunting and fishing licenses, as well as reservations for 41 other park systems.
The state would pay the company $75,000 a year to manage the site. Customers would pay a processing fee when making a reservation.
The DNR will consider the change on Dec. 9.
