A woman was pinned by a buggy after the horse pulling it was startled Tuesday night southwest of Iowa City, authorities said.
Freda Miller, 31, of Iowa City, was injured and taken by ambulance to a hospital after the crash around 8:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of 480th Street SW. Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said a witness had to pull the buggy off Miller after the accident, but he did not know the extent of her injuries.
Storms were rolling through the area at the time. Authorities said they have not determined if lightning spooked the horse, or if it was something else.
A second passenger in the buggy was not hurt, Pulkrabek said. An investigation was continuing.
