Iowa City woman arrested for failing to return 53 DVDs to the library
An Iowa City woman sits in the Johnson County Jail on a $7,500 bond for failing to return 53 overdue DVDs she borrowed from the Iowa City Public Library.
Police said Saira V. Denny-Cline, 23, was charged with second-degree theft Tuesday after she allegedly checked out DVDs that were due on Oct. 2. Library staff sent her a letter saying the items were long overdue and not returning them would result in the case being pursued as theft by Iowa City Police, according to criminal complaints.
Police said several attempts were made by library staff and officers to contact Denny-Cline, but none were successful.
The value of the missing items is $1,360, police said.
