An Iowa City woman faces an accessory to a felony charge after police say she lied to them about her son stealing her purse.
According to a complaint from the Iowa City police department, officers were dispatched to the Stars and Stripes Grill, 3016 Muscatine
Ave., on May 26 for the theft of a purse.
When police called Kristen Hodges, 46, for an interview about the theft of her purse, the complaint said she told police she did not know who stole her purse and assured them it was not her son.
Police said Hodges' son stole the purse and told her about it the same morning. Police also obtained video of the theft, but the complaint said Hodges continued to lie about who stole the purse.
Accessory to a felony is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $6,250.
