Iowa City Public Library hosts Intellectual Freedom Festival

IOWA CITY - The Iowa City Public Library‘s 2017 Carol Spaziani Intellectual Freedom Festival begins Sunday with events planned through Sept. 28.
This year's festival, which honors former librarian Carol Spaziani for her lifelong commitment to the freedom of ideas, includes the following programs:
l Sunday Fun Day - 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and again on Sept. 24.
l Totally Tweens-Upcycled Book Art - 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and again on Sept. 25.
l Preschool Banned Books Storytime - 10:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 21 and Sept. 27.
l Brooke Gladstone of WNYC's On the Media and author of 'The Trouble with Reality speaks at the Englert Theatre about fake news and the media - 2 to 3 p.m. Sept. 24.
l Political Poems-The Power of Words - noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 27.
l Short Film Festival - 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 28.
All programs are free to the public and take place at the library, 123 S. Linn St., unless otherwise noted.
