Iowa City police take dozens of vandalism reports

Iowa City police responded to 34 vandalism complaints over the weekend, officials said.
The majority of the complaints were on the west side of Iowa City, in neighborhoods off of West Benton Street and Melrose Avenue. Residents reported that windows were broken out of vehicles parked outside their homes. Police believe a baseball bat was used to cause the damage.
On the city's east side, residents in the neighborhoods off Highland Avenue reported windows broken out of garages and damage to holiday decorations.
Police believe the damage occurred between Dec. 2 and Dec. 4, during the nighttime hours. On the west side, witnesses reported seeing a dark colored SUV in the area around the time glass was heard breaking.
Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect. Anyone with information about these crimes is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
