Iowa City police still searching for bank robber
Feb. 9, 2012 7:16 am
Iowa City police are continuing to search for clues that could lead them to a suspected serial bank robber.
"There seems to be a timing trend," said crime prevention officer, Jorey Bailey. "But we're always prepared."
Bailey said he couldn't directly comment on whether or not three recent bank robberies were related, but acknowledged there were striking similarities in all three cases:
Case 1. A man dressed in black clothing robbed U.S. Bank, 2312 Mormon Trek Blvd., at 5:21 pm on Friday, Nov. 18. Witnesses described the suspect as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds, and armed with a handgun.
Case 2. A man dressed in black clothing robbed MidWest One Bank, 2233 Rochester Ave., at 5:27 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16. Witnesses described the suspect as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, and armed with a handgun.
Case 3. A man robs U.S. Bank, 2312 Mormon Trek Blvd., at 5:22 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3. Witnesses described the suspect as 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium build and armed with a handgun.
A combined reward in the cases totals nearly $25,000.
Bailey said he recommended that bankers continue to work on building strong relationships with customers. He said all patrol officers are "very much" aware of the recent incidents.
