Iowa City police investigating gunshot

An officer in an unmarked patrol vehicle witnessed a single gunshot Saturday morning after an argument between three men escalated near Broadway Street in Iowa City.
Reports indicate that the shot was fired toward two men involved in the confrontation as the officer pulled up to the scene at 1958C Broadway St. around 1:45 a.m. Saturday. After the shot was fired, the shooter fled to the rear of the apartment building, and the other two men involved ran the scene.
The area was searched using a K9 unit, but the shooter was not located, police said.
The shooter is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build and a medium to light complexion. He was observed wearing a dark colored baseball style hat, a brown leather waist length jacket and jeans.
“We've received a couple of CrimeStopper tips and are looking into them,” Iowa City Police Sergeant Denise Brotherton said. “No arrests have currently been made.”
The Iowa City Police Department is asking anyone with information about the crime to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed.
