UPDATE: IOWA CITY - Police are saying very little about a 20 year-old woman found dead in her Iowa City apartment.
A 911 call for a robbery Wednesday night led police to a wrong address. Officers eventually ended up at 1527 Aber Avenue. Inside one of the apartments, they found the body of 20 year-old Kylie Perkins. Right now police and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation are investigating her death as "suspicious", but they aren't saying much else.
People who live in the apartment building were startled when police started banging on their doors Wednesday night. Even more shocking was what the officers had to say.
"Someone had called in a robbery and a possible shooting. They asked us if we had heard any gunshots, screaming, or fighting, but we hadn't," says Alex Arduser.
The unknown caller gave police the wrong address. Officers scoured the area until they entered 1527 Aber Avenue. There, they found Perkins's body in her third floor apartment. Investigators won't say whether it was robbery or a shooting, which has neighbors trying to figure out what happened.
"Just taking the dog out this morning, they were asking if I knew what was going on. That was this morning. No one has any idea," says Megan Kalb.
Neighbors say they didn't know Perkins because she was new to the neighborhood.
"I think they moved in two to three weeks ago, and we really hadn't had much interaction with them," says Arduser.
Neighbors also say this is usually a safe area of Iowa City and they have no idea why this happened to Perkins.
"I just feel really bad for this girl and her family," says Kalb.
For her family's sake and for their own piece of mind, people who live there hope investigators quickly figure out what happened.
Iowa City police say an autopsy was performed Thursday morning, but investigators are not releasing any information about it.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers at 358-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. All identities will be kept confidential.
