Iowa City Police Department promotes lieutenant to captain

The Iowa City Police Department announced Thursday that they have promoted one of their members to the rank of captain.
According to a city release, on Wednesday Iowa City Police Lieutenant Bill Campbell was promoted to Captain during a ceremony at Emma J. Harvat Hall in City. In this new role, Campbell will serve as the Commander of Administrative Services.
Campbell was hired by the Iowa City Police Department on April 27, 1990, and served as patrol officer and field training officer before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant on December 22, 1996, according to the release.
Later, as a Sergeant, Campbell served as supervisor on all three patrol watches, Public Information Officer, Records Division Supervisor, and as an Investigations Supervisor. On June 14, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, according to release.
In addition to these roles, Campbell over the course of his time with the police was the Special Response Team (SRT) commander for 18 years, according to the release. He also worked closely with the Iowa City Community School District on the design and implementation of the district's emergency response plan.
