An Iowa City man was arrested Thursday night after police say he and five other men entered an apartment and stole electronics.
According to reports, uniformed officers and plainclothes detectives gathered at 13 E Burlington St. No. 113 while patrolling the downtown area when they identified and located Don E. Williams, who ran two blocks from police while carrying a laptop, iPhone, iPod and headphones in a reusable grocery bag.
Williams continued to run to the intersection of Clinton and Jefferson streets while an officer yelled for him to stop, and he was eventually apprehended.
Police said Williams, 18, of 931 N. Dodge St., confirmed the items belonged to him, but refused to give more information. He was identified by a witness as one of the five males involved in the burglary.
The owner of the items in Williams' bag identified them as her property, police said. Williams later admitted to committing the burglary, police said.
No one else has been arrested in the burglary. According to Iowa City police Sgt. Denise Brotherton, an investigation is continuing.
Williams is charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a serious misdemeanor.
His bond has been set at $10,000 cash at the Johnson County Jail.
