An Iowa City man has been identified as the person who died in a fiery, single-vehicle crash last week.
Ronald S. Bowers, 32, of Iowa City, was a passenger in a car traveling north on Utah Avenue that crashed around 6:25 p.m. Sunday. Bowers died from severe burns as a result of the crash, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, 20-year-old Richard A. Casey, of North Liberty, ran off the road at 340th Street. The car then burst into flames, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The ignition source of the fire remains under investigation.
Casey was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to be treated for injuries, but his condition is unknown. He was charged with failure to maintain control and no proof of insurance, according to an accident report.
