An Iowa City man is in the Johnson County Jail after police say he used his brother's name when he was arrested for operating while intoxicated in May, causing his brother to be prosecuted and to lose his license.
Jorge A. Lopez, 23, of 3433 Berkeley Lane, was arrested on suspicion of malicious prosecution on Thursday. Lopez was in the Johnson County Jail Friday on a $4,000 cash bond.
Iowa City police say Lopez was arrested on May 14 for operating while intoxicated and taken to jail. Lopez used the name of his brother, Jonathan Lopez, 19, the night he was arrested, police say.
The information Jorge Lopez used caused his brother to be prosecuted for OWI, and his license was revoked.
The situation came to light Thursday, when Jorge Lopez admitted he knew his brother's name was being used while he was in jail and he did nothing to remedy the situation, according to police.
