An Iowa City man is in the Johnson County Jail after being charged for making methamphetamine in his mother's home in December.
Police responded to the residence of Tyler A. Guhl, 22, of 101 Shrader Rd., on Dec. 7 for a report of an active meth lab.
His mother, Cindy L. Guhl, 50, consented to a search of the home, but Tyler Guhl refused permission for officers to search his room, according to criminal complaints.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the bedroom, where they found methamphetamine paraphernalia, precursors, packaging material, a digital scale, methamphetamine, and evidence of methamphetamine manufacturing, according to police.
Police said evidence of drug use was found in two other rooms of the house.
Cindy Guhl admitted to police that one of her children was making meth and said she could smell a “toxic odor” coming from his room, according to the criminal complaint.
Her 15- and 12-year-old children also live at the home and were exposed to the lab and other effects of living in a drug house, police said.
Cindy Guhl is awaiting trial after being charged with keeping a drug house and child endangerment.
Tyler Guhl was charged with possession of a controlled substance precursor, keeping or permitting the use of a controlled substance in a structure, and possession of methamphetamine. He remained in the Johnson County Jail Monday on a $42,500 cash-only bond.
