An Iowa City man faces sexual abuse charges after he allegedly fondled a woman while she was sleeping.
According to police complaints, a woman awoke and screamed after Matthew L. Banker, 20, had fondled her in the 500 block of South Dodge Street sometime between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 25.
Police said Banker, who the woman said was not her boyfriend, then fled, dropping his cell phone on the floor.
According to police, Banker admitted to “fondling” the woman and stated repeatedly that he was sorry.
He is being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $15,000 bail, and cannot make contact with the woman, according to Johnson County District Court documents. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
Banker, of 426 S. Dodge St., is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and could face a maximum ten years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
