An Iowa City man faces an assault charge after getting into a broom fight with a woman.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's office, Nelson F. Andino-Flores, 54, of 216 Blackfoot Trail, was awakened at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home by a woman cleaning the house.
An argument between the two escalated into a fight, and Andino-Flores pushed the woman and started hitting her with a broom handle on the back and arms, authorities said.
The woman then grabbed another broom handle to defend herself and struck Andino-Flores on the head, causing a bump, authorities said.
The woman had bleeding cuts on her right index finger, according to complaints.
Investigators determined Andino-Flores was the primary aggressor in the assault. He is charged with domestic abuse assault without intent, causing injury.
