An Iowa City man faces charges after threatening a cabdriver with a gun.
Police received a call shortly after midnight Thursday from a cabdriver saying a male had displayed a gun during an altercation and made threats to use the gun against him, according to criminal complaints.
Police said Derrick T. Alger, 24, of 889 Park Place, who was wearing shorts, cowboys boots and a cowboy hat, threatened the driver before fleeing the scene.
An hour later, police received a call about a male with a similar description entering a door of a residence in the 600 block of Manor Dr., according to reports.
Police said Alger confronted the residents using vulgar language and threatened to kill their dog when it began barking at him, before being convinced he was in the wrong house.
“Residents were frightened by his behavior,” police said.
After police located and arrested Alger - who matched the description from the complaints - near the residence, police said he admitted to having an unloaded .22 pistol that the cabdriver told police he had pulled from his cowboy boots.
Police said Alger had a strong odor of alcohol, poor balance, slurred speech and had a BAC of .312.
Alger was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, carrying weapons, intoxication, and trespass. He posted a $12,500 bond Thursday afternoon.
