An 18-year-old has been arrested for his involvement in an assault at the Coralville Reservoir on Tuesday, authorities said.
Devyn D. Denny, of Iowa City, is accused of first-degree harassment and obstruction of emergency communications. He was among a group of males present during the assault and was later located by police in Iowa City, authorities said.
Johnson County Sheriff's deputies responded to the spillway at the reservoir just before 6 p.m. when the assault was reported. The person who called 911 said handgun was displayed. Before deputies arrived, two adult males and three juvenile males left in a sport-utility vehicle, authorities said.
Police said Devyn Denny, of 74 Erobi Lane, was with four other subjects when they became involved in a physical altercation with subjects who were fishing. Denny exited a vehicle with gun yelling at the fishermen telling them he was going to shoot them or “I will blow your dome off,” according to police reports. He admitted to police that he pulled a BB gun on the fishermen with the intent to threaten or harm them.
A K-9 unit assisted in the search for the weapon, which was found in a wooded area by the reservoir. It was determined to be an air pistol, rather than an actual handgun.
The assault victim was treated for facial injuries at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and was later released, according to the sheriff's office.
An investigation is continuing, and more charges could be filed. Denny remained in the Johnson County Jail Wednesday on a $5,000 cash-only bond.
