Iowa City man arrested for 2008 robbery at Scheels

Police arrested an Iowa City man for his involvement in a 2008 gun robbery.
Mohamed B. Elkamil, 19, of 2610 Bartelt Road No. 10, Iowa City was arrested for third-degree burglary by Coralville Police on June 30 for a gun robbery that occurred on December 8, 2008 at Scheels, 1461 Coral Ridge Avenue, Coralville.
According to police documents, Elkamil gained access to the store by busting out a rooftop window and climbing down a ladder. He stole 17 handguns worth more than $11,000. Police said Elkamil used a hammer to break into two display cases to steal the merchandise.
Police said Charles Currey, a co-defendant to Elkamil admitted to his and Elkamil's involvement with the burglary.
Curry, 20, of North Liberty was arrested in February of 2009 for possession of stolen property after one of the stolen guns was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Court documents said he was charged February 17, 2009 for third-degree theft and trafficking stolen weapons, a Class D Felony.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Adult Admissions docket Elkamil entered the Johnson County Jail on Friday, July 9 at 11:25 p.m., but was no longer there Sunday.
