An Iowa City man was arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance, domestic abuse and interference with official acts causing bodily injury after leading officers on a foot chase.
Geary L. Zimmon, 22, was apprehended by Iowa City police after leading them on a foot pursuit near Burlington and Governor streets. During the chase, officers saw Zimmon throw a small bag of marijuana over a fence.
Authorities say Zimmon was found to have a second bag of marijuana after he was apprehended. During the chase, an officer suffered a minor injury.
It was not the first time Zimmon had run from Iowa City police, records show. Noted as a "known drug dealer," officers asked Zimmon to consent to a search of his pockets when he was seen outside an apartment complex notorious for drug dealing on April 26.
Zimmon refused, was uncooperative, and ran from the police. Officers were unable to catch Zimmon in that incident, but did observe him throwing a baggie of marijuana over a nearby fence, Iowa City police said.
In addition to being wanted for possession of a controlled substance from April 26, Zimmon was wanted for a domestic assault that occurred in Iowa City. Reports indicate that Zimmon allegedly left scratches on a woman's neck and pushed her before fleeing the scene on May 22.
Zimmon was being held at the Johnson County Jail Wednesdasy morning on a $5,500 bond.
