IOWA CITY - Police have arrested an Iowa City man who is accused of locking a woman inside a bedroom, sexually assaulting her and taking explicit photos.
In a news release, Iowa City police said Peng Tang, 21, had made arrangements over the phone to visit a woman Thursday evening at her residence in the 1000 block of W. Benton Street. Police said the two did not know each other, but the two were discussing the possibility of Teng subletting the apartment.
After Peng arrived, the woman began giving him a tour of the apartment. As she showed Peng the bedroom, police said, he locked the door, grabbed her hands, and tried to tie or handcuff them behind her back.
When she tried to speak to Peng, he put a towel in her mouth. Peng then forced her to turn her cellphone off and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Police said Peng told the woman that he had a knife during the assault. Before he left, police said Peng took explicit photos of the woman and said he would post them online if she called the police.
Iowa City Police said they took a report on the incident at 8:17 p.m. Thursday, and an investigation led to Peng's arrest.
According to police, the victim was treated for minor injuries and released from the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Peng has been charged with first degree kidnapping, a Class A felony punishable by a sentence of up to life in prison. He also faces a lesser sexual abuse charge.
According to the Johnson County Jail, Peng is being held without bond.
