A University of Iowa student facing weapon and theft charges after a convenience store robbery waived his right to a speedy trial and entered a written arraignment and not guilty plea Thursday, court records show.
Jonathan T. Bogaard, 21, is accused of robbing the L&M Mighty Shop, at 504 E Burlington St., Dec. 14, while wearing a ski mask and displaying a knife to the clerk. He managing to flee the store with $200 to $250 cash from the register.
Bogaard, who bonded out of the Johnson County Jail Dec. 31, is due back in court April 10 for trial. A pre-trial conference has been set for Mar. 30.
He is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, going armed with intent, a Class D felony, and fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. Records indicate Judge Douglas Russell dismissed Bogaard's felony charge of assault with a weapon Dec. 30.
