Iowa City fire causes thousands of dollars in damage

IOWA CITY – Firefighters quickly squelched a fire Wednesday afternoon, but not before it caused about $43,000, fire officials say.
The Iowa City Fire Department was dispatched at 1:13 p.m. to 1032 Howell Street, where fire was showing from a detached garage. Crews contained the fire within 10 minutes, fire officials say, and they completely extinguished it 20 minutes later.
The home next to the garage sustained minor damage, and no injuries were reported.
The fire is still under investigation.
