IOWA CITY – The City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday night in support of City Manager Tom Markus' plan to change his office's structure.
When longtime Assistant City Manager Dale Helling retires, likely sometime between the fall and the end of the year, Markus will eliminate the “assistant city manager” position and add an “assistant to the city manager.” The new position would have different primary duties and move down pay grades, saving the city an estimated $26,475 annually.
Markus said the changes would better serve his office and save the city money.
