IOWA CITY - With his latest term on Iowa City Council nearing its end, Jim Throgmorton has announced plans to run for a consecutive term.
Throgmorton, who is serving as Iowa City's District C city council representative, will host a re-election campaign event Wednesday 11:45 a.m. at Uptown Bill's, 730 S. Dubuque St. Throgmorton will be running for one of the council's at-large seats this November election.
Throgmorton, who spent 26 months on the council in the mid-90s, said in a Monday news release that he plans to continue his advocacy for open government, a better use of Tax Increment Financing, investment in city resources to benefit lower income residents, invest in older, core neighborhoods and adopt a biodiversity management strategy to address climate change.
'Iowa City is a great place to live,” Throgmorton said in the release, 'But it is not working well for far too many residents. For them, the prevailing vision accommodates the interests of a few while ignoring those of the many. And it's rapidly changing the city they love into a place that might soon be unrecognizable. I think Iowa City should strive to become a Just City, a city that is good on the ground for all, both now and in the future.”
