Iowa City convenience store robbed at knifepoint

IOWA CITY, Iowa - New video released Thursday afternoon shows an Iowa City store clerk being robbed and held at knifepoint.  According to police a hooded man robbed the Creekside Market, 2601 Hwy 6 E., shortly after 11 pm Wednesday night.

“(The clerk) was violently grabbed, she was assaulted, she had a knife held up to her,” said Iowa City police Sergeant Denise Brotherton.  “The employee didn't even have a chance to do anything.”

Police are still searching for the robber.  He is described as a black male 5'10” and 180 pounds.  He escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, after spending just over one minute inside the store.

“He comes in and just bounds over that counter and grabs on to her,” Brotherton said.

The store clerk was treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene a short time after the robbery.  She was unavailable for comment Thursday morning.

Brotherton said the suspect will likely face robbery and assault charges.  Police are offering a $1 thousand reward for information leading to an arrest.  Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 319-358-TIPS.
