IOWA CITY - Iowa City Clerk Christopher Guidry has announced his resignation less than one month after starting the job.
In his resignation letter to members of the Iowa City Council, Guidry said he received a job opportunity in his 'dream line of work.”
Guidry told The Gazette he has taken a job as vice president of business development with Pearson, an educational and professional assessment company with an office in Iowa City.
Guidry was unanimously approved as the new clerk by the council on March 7 and began his position March 8.
As clerk, Guidry, 42, of Iowa City, earned a salary of $87,000, according to city council documents.
'Although I have greatly enjoyed the short time I spent at City Hall, I just can't say no to this opportunity, and so I have to move on,” Guidry wrote to council members.
Previously, Guidry worked as an education technology consultant and as director of workforce solutions at ACT. He replaced retired longtime City Clerk Marian Karr, who began as a deputy clerk in 1979.
The City Clerk's Office maintains records and the city code. It's also responsible for some licensing and permits, as well as helping staff and the public with any city research, according to a news release from the city.
Aside from his time at ACT, Guidry previously worked for the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and the Chicago Board of Education. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Northern Illinois University and a law degree from Loyola University of Chicago.
